Total Hours: 8 (One Day Course)

Welcome to the instructor-led Managed Design, Inc. training course and guide for Hydraflow Hydrographs, Express, and Storm Sewers for use at Managed Design, Inc. training centers, corporate training settings, and other classroom settings.

This course and guide focuses on the features and functionality available within Hydraflow Hydrographs, Hydraflow Express, and Hydraflow Storm Sewers. These applications combined with a variety of tools offered in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 allow design engineers to model their hydrology and hydraulic related project components to satisfy water runoff requirements established by local governing agencies.

This guide is complimentary to the software documentation and is provided with the instructor-led course.

Total Hours: 16 (Two Day Course)

Participants will learn how to manage and create Civil 3D styles, and how to use software features including the design center and tool pallets to help create standardized company practices for using Civil 3D. During this class participants can take their own company drawings and use them to adjust an Managed Design provided styles template match what their company currently produces. Managed Design will also incorporate the NCS layer standards and use the Layer Manger's layer filters to make using Civil 3D more efficient.

This course also includes one day of custom styles development for your company, organization, or municipality. This custom development is conducted by one of our Professional Engineers in conjunction with your users to ensure that a quality, uniform, and usable set of standards is created.

Total Hours: 4 (Half Day Courses)

These courses are designed to get you and your staff more quickly up to speed on Civil 3D. These courses require less time and provide training in specific content areas of Civil 3D. Professional Development Series courses smooth the transition to Civil 3D even for groups and individuals who have little time and/or budget available for training. The following topics are available:

  • Civil 3D Starting a Design
    Students will learn the new interface of C3D, you will learn about the Prospector Tab, Settings tab, Survey Tab and the Toolbox tab. Students will understand the basics of the software and difference between Land Desktop and Civil 3D.
  • Civil 3D Description Keys, Points and Surfaces
    Students will learn about description keys and learn how to control points with Point styles and Labels styles. The class covers the benefits of Point groups and how users can be used to help manage you points. Students will then learn how to create surfaces from imported point data and how to edit this data with break lines and surface new civil 3D edits. Finally students will dig into the surfaces styles and learn how to manipulate surfaces and alter their appearances to meet your standards.
  • Civil 3D Alignments and Profiles
    Students will learn how to create an alignment from both a polyline and by layout. Labeling the alignments and turning on other station’s labels will also be covered. Students will learn how to create an EG profile and FG profiles and how to manipulate the profile view’s scale and text.
  • Civil 3D Subassemblies, Assemblies, Corridors and Sections
    Students will learn what subassemblies are and what an assembly means for the user. Students will learn how to combine what they have learned to make a corridor and sample sections for output.
  • Civil 3D Advanced Assemblies, Corridors and Corridor surfaces
    Students will jump in to the no so commonly used Generic subassemblies and examine mark points and generic links. Students will look at the Code set, and show how this can effect what is labeled in their cross section views. Students will build various corridor surfaces that are necessary for Earthworks and we will discover what the different types of boundaries are and when to use them.
  • Civil 3D 2010 Intersection Design
    Students will look at the two main styles of intersection designs and how to manually create them. Students will first create one from scratch as per 2009 and then use the new 2010 Intersection design tool to create them in seconds!
  • Civil 3D 2010 QTO Manager
    Students will use the new QTO manager and import the MNDOT spec and code list. They will then map out a few items within the Corridor Code set and then within the Storm Sewer part list. They will add in various formulas and output the quantity results both to an HTML file and into the current dwg as an AutoCAD Table.
  • Civil 3D 2010 Parcels
    Students will learn how to dynamically create a development within Civil 3D using real criteria. They will then edit these newly created parcels to meet our client’s requirements. Finally, students will jump in to the label styles for both the parcels and lines and create ones that meet our needs.
  • Civil 3D Grading – Feature Lines and Grading Objects
    Students will learn the ins and outs of Feature lines and how to better manipulate them and have them create our surfaces for us. They will look at the feature line labels and surface labels that will better help us design. Students will create a parking lot from Feature lines and we will edit it. The will then jump into a grading object and design a simple and complex pond. Finally, students will combine both the parking lot and the pond in to a final composite surface for final site earthworks and label it all.
  • Civil 3D 2010 Hydrology – Hydraflow Storm Sewers
    Students will first create a small storm sewer system inside C3D and then export this out Hydraflow storm sewer extensions. They will then design the system for a 10 year storm and then analyze the system for a 25 year storm and export the final product back into Civil 3D.
  • Civil 3D Data Shortcuts and Project Management
    Students will learn how to use data shortcuts to manage our projects data and to minimize the file sizes. They will start with Topo drawings and move to design drawings and then to the final output sheet files.

The price for each half day course is $200. Course textbooks are not included in this cost but are available for purchase at $100 each (one textbook covers all PDS courses) and are highly recommended. Please feel free to contact us if you would like more details regarding these courses.

The Civil 3D Fundamentals course is designed for Civil Engineers and Surveyors who want to take advantage of AutoCAD Civil 3D’s interactive, dynamic design functionality. AutoCAD Civil 3D permits the rapid development of alternatives through its model-based design tools. You will learn techniques enabling you to organize project data, work with points, create and analyze surfaces, model road corridors, create parcel layouts, perform grading and volume calculation tasks, and lay out pipe networks.

Topics Include:

  • Become familiar with the AutoCAD Civil 3D user interface
  • Create /Edit Parcels and print parcel reports
  • Create and manage Points and Point Groups and work with survey figures
  • Create, edit, view, and analyze surfaces
  • Create and edit Alignments
  • Create data shortcuts
  • Create sites, profiles and cross-sections
  • Create assemblies, corridors, and intersections
  • Create simple grading solutions
  • Create gravity fed and pressure pipe networks
  • Perform quantity takeoff and volume calculations
  • Utilize Plan productions to create plan profiles sheets.
